Selling online in Saudi Arabia in 2026: what shoppers expect

A fast-growing market, with shoppers who expect a lot

Saudi Arabia is one of the fastest-growing ecommerce markets in the region. Market researchers estimate it at around US$31 billion in 2026, growing roughly 12% a year towards 2031, with internet use at about 99% of the population. Payments have shifted from cash to cards and wallets: the national Mada network processed about US$52.6 billion of ecommerce in 2024, up around 26% on the year before.

Growth brings competition. Shoppers compare, and they leave quickly when a store doesn’t feel right.

What Saudi shoppers expect

  1. A real Arabic store. Right-to-left layout, natural Arabic product descriptions and an easy switch to English.
  2. The payment methods they use. Mada, Apple Pay and cards as standard, and buy-now-pay-later options such as Tabby and Tamara are now common.
  3. Mobile first. Most shopping happens on phones, so the store must be fast and easy with one thumb.
  4. Clear delivery. Delivery times and costs by city, shown before checkout, and simple tracking after.
  5. Help on WhatsApp. A quick answer before buying often decides the sale.
  6. Prices in SAR, with VAT clear, and invoices that meet ZATCA’s e-invoicing rules.
  7. Trust. Reviews, a clear returns policy and real contact details.
Check your store: try buying one product on your phone, in Arabic, using Apple Pay. Count the taps and note anything that made you hesitate.

Choosing the right platform

There’s no single best platform. Shopify suits simpler stores that want to launch quickly. WooCommerce works well for smaller shops already on WordPress. Magento is built for larger catalogues, B2B pricing and multiple stores. Local platforms like Salla and Zid are popular for smaller Saudi merchants. The right choice depends on your products, growth plans and the systems you need to connect.
